Spinning Jenny has stocked DMC embroidery threads for decades - and although sometimes we have brought other interesting threads into the shop, DMC is at the heart of our stock. Generally considered to be the best in the world, we do our very best to stock as much as we can - and we are one of the few places where you can come and rummage through the drawers of Perle cotton!
There is a bewildering array of threads and colours and we have tried very hard to make this web site as clear as we can - but of course, as with everything we do, if you are stuck, get in touch with us and we will do our best to help. Generally, we start with the colour (e.g. Ecru or 310) and then list all the threads in that colour that we stock. We have also started to arrange the colours into collections - hopefully this helps!
The basics are:
- DMC threads come in around 500 colours.
- Every colour is available in the six stranded cotton thread (sometimes called '25', or 'Mouline Special', or '115'). We aim also to stock all available colours in Satin, Light Effects (which includes Jewel Effects, Metallic and Pearlescent colours) and Etoile. All these follow the same 500 colour numbers of Mouline - so 310 will be black in all types
- Coloris & Variations are available in their own series of numbers, so are listed separately.
- Perle cotton thread (using the same numbering system as stranded thread) is available in No3, No5, No8 and No12 weights. It is used for embroidery as well as crochet. The higher the number, the finer the thread.
- Not all colours are available in Perle thread - so if the thread number you are looking for is not in the drop down list, it may not be produced in that colour. Again, we are building our stock to keep all available colours.
- We also stock the following DMC threads in many colours:
